Dino Discovery on Original Avenue

Construction workers made the discovery of a lifetime this week when routine excavation work turned into a prehistoric treasure hunt. With heavy machinery crawling all over the site on Original Avenue, Jack Hammerstein says it was nothing short of a miracle that he spotted the skull of an ancient tyrannosaurus rex just moments before a backhoe would have destroyed it.

"I was drilling away at the rock bed  when I saw something white in with the rocks and dirt," said Hammerstein. "When I moved in to take a closer look, they waved off the backhoe and saved the thing. It was that close."

Paleontologists were on site within hours, roping off the construction area and working to unearth the find.
